The Honourable Julie Bishop

First Female Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party

The Honourable Julie Bishop is one of Australia’s most recognised and respected politicians. For 20 years Julie served as the federal member for the West Australian seat of Curtin. She was Australia’s Foreign Minister for five years, representing our nation’s interests on the world stage. She was the first female in that role, and also the first female to be Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in its 75 year history, working for four different leaders over 11 years.

To global acclaim, Julie led the international response to the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine. Under her leadership, the Foreign Policy White Paper was developed providing a comprehensive policy framework for the next decade. Her most cherished legacy – the New Colombo Plan - has supported 40,000 Australian undergraduates to live, study and work in the Indo-Pacific region.

Prior to entering politics, she was Managing Partner of Perth law firm Clayton Utz.

She is an advocate for women in business and leadership and is looking forward to sharing her personal experiences and lessons with Nurture Her attendees in Fiji.
